Go out to swanky dinners with your best friend
Yesterday was a our first day in Chicago of a three day mini-cation.
Alex Anna is probably/thinking about moving to Chicago in the fall, so or course I encouraged a mini-cation to check out the neighborhoods, the city and of course, the food.
We first cruised the neighborhood we reside in and stopped for a drink at the locals' favorite spot (according to our Airbnb host).
The weather was perfect.
As we ventured around the city, we chatted often about how great it was to be on a trip as two women best friends. Don't get me wrong, I love Jake, my husband, and miss him dearly, but this quality time and adventure with Alex Anna is important and valuable too. There's no pressure and we like A LOT of the same things, so there's minimal compromise on food and adventures. Our conclusion became women friends matter and are necessary to survival. Our other conclusion, our pups are also necessary for survival.
I can not lie, I miss this face.
We cruised around, shopped for shoes, ate fancy cocktails called "Jane Does" at Bangers and Lace, and then headed back to our tiny home in Chicago.
here's where I lose my cool.
I'm a foodie-groupie.
I love to be wined and dined and to try new foods, try the best restaurants, and to leave completely full and never without desert.
For almost a year I've wanted to venture to The Girl and the Goat, and last night we FINALLY did.
It was all I had dreamed of.
The atmosphere was casual, but a good kind of "you belong here" casual. There were no table clothes or pressure to pick which fork you should eat with. You order food and eat it family style. So after we ordered our three dishes, the waitress told us it wasn't enough food.
We sure thought it was.
After we explained that we ate like "birds" she understood and left us with our minimal order.
First had green beans with balsamic and lemon. As well as house made bread with delicious spreads to go along.
Please just look at that adorable goat on the cutting board. These people understand branding and design, and for that I am grateful.
We also had blueberry goat empanadas and escargo ravioli. I loved the goat empanadas, while Alex Anna loved the ravioli.
Last we had dessert. Which noW I can't even remember what we ordered, but it took the cake, literally.
It was some kind of blueberry cobbler like cake with blueberry preserves and vanilla gelato.
Eat your heart out.
Our other favorite part of the meal, our doggie bag.
One of the best meals of my travels. All farm to table, fresh, and perfectly executed from the atmosphere to what goes in your mouth.
Best part, I shared a table with my best friend, we laughed the whole ride home with our Uber driver, washed our faces and crawled into bed.
Hopeful for another grand adventure today!
